Beyond Workplace Bullying

The purpose of Beyond Bullying is:

  • To raise awareness of the hazard to well-being presented by workplace bullying
  • To provide assistance to employers and employees regarding how to manage workplace bullying behaviour using a risk management approach
  • To assist employers to comply with Occupational Health and Safety and other legislation relating to workplace bullying
  • To network with others working in the area of workplace bullying locally, nationally and internationally
  • To contribute to the scientific, evidence-based study of workplace bullying
  • To communicate state-of-the-art strategies and research findings to interested stakeholders

The topics will include:

  • What is ‘workplace bullying’?
  • What isn’t it?
  • Cases (including legal cases) of workplace bullying behaviour.
  • The latest Australian statistics regarding workplace bullying.
  • The costs of workplace bullying to individuals and organisations.
  • What does the law say about workplace bullying?
  • What are some of the options in relation to managing workplace bullying behaviour?
  • Where to go for advice.

Various factors will be considered, including:

  • Organisations at risk
  • Antecedents of bullying behaviour at work
  • Is there a ‘bully profile’?
  • Is there a ‘target profile’?
  • Perceptions of and reactions to people who are targeted by bullying behaviour.

 

Presenters

Dr. Anne Wyatt
Anne Wyatt has practised for over twenty-seven years as an occupational health, safety, management and education consultant. She has a background in the health sciences and education. She holds a Master degree and a Doctorate in occupational health and safety as well as a Graduate Diploma in Criminology from Sydney University. Anne is the founding editor of the Journal of Occupational Health and Safety (Australia and New Zealand). She has been recently re-appointed as a Senior Lecturer, School of Risk and Safety Sciences, University of NSW. She has assisted many individuals, groups, teams and organisations with Occupational Health and Safety and related issues and is currently focusing on the issue of psychological safety in the workplace.


Dr. Carlo Caponecchia
Carlo Caponecchia has a Bachelor’s degree and PhD in Psychology, with an expertise in stress. He is an academic at the School of Safety Science, at the University of NSW, and teaches in the undergraduate and postgraduate Health and Safety programs. Carlo’s research interests include aspects of psychological hazards at work, in the context of OHS; risk perception and communication, and human factors. Carlo is involved in several research-based consultancy projects with industry groups. Carlo is currently involved with Beyond Bullying in an advisory capacity.
